Make your vacation complete with a visit to one of Acapulco's area attractions
There's a lot more to the Acapulco area than sun and surf. Acapulco attractions offer a myriad of things to see and do, whether you're looking to fill an hour or a day. With choices as varied as museums, cruises, and historical sites, you'll never have a dull moment during your visit to Acapulco. Of course, our beautiful beaches remain the reason people visit year after year. So let us show you some of our favorite places to play.
Acapulco Bay
This is the spot where Spanish galleons sailed to Asia. You can look at the beautiful views on this bay that stretches across four miles.
Acapulco Convention Center
While convention centers aren’t usually tourist attractions, the Acapulco Convention Center has sights that tourists will enjoy. A garden and a water fountain are found in the middle of the center. The Acapulco Symphony Orchestra performs here, along with a group that presents Mexican folklore. Many television shows are taped here, giving some visitors the chance to be among a television audience.
Avenida Costera Miguel Aleman
The Avenida Costera Miguel Aleman (called “Costera” by the locals) is the main street in Acapulco. Shops and beaches are on the eastern side of the avenue.
Cathedral on the Plaza
This Spanish-colonial church has sky-blue domes. It is built in the Moorish style that was transplanted from Spain.
CICI
CICI is a water park that has water slides, dolphins, and a seal show. This is a family spot.
Fort San Diego
Spaniards built Fort San Diego in 1697 to protect Acapulco from pirates. In 1776, the fort was reduced to rubble after a major earthquake. The fort was quickly rebuilt, and is now the Historical Museum of Acapulco.
Papagayo Park
Papagayo Park is across the bay from Costera. The park is for kids. It has go-karts, skating rinks, rides, and arcades.
La Quebrada - Acapulco Cliff Divers
This is a major tourist attraction in Acapulco. Divers must time their jump precisely, or they could face injury or death. Divers jump from as high as 130 feet into the Pacific Ocean. The best place to see the divers is at the Mirador Hotel. One of the best times to see the cliff divers is at night when they carry torches as they dive.
The Zocalo
The Zocalo is a town square that features several activities. Musicians play at the gazebo on Sunday afternoons. A balloon man is found at the center at the square, attracting kids. A cathedral built for a 1930s movie, sits at one end of the square. |
